The Dallas Morning News

   About this project

This photo-driven interactive was the brainchild of myself, a staff photographer and a justice reporter. We knew that we wanted to tell a West Dallas neighborhood’s story as a series of very visual vignettes. We met before anything was written, photographed or designed to come up with a strategy to tackle such an innovative endeavor. We decided upon six main characters through whom we wanted to tell different aspects of the story. Consequently, the text written in short snips and the photos taken documentary-style was purposeful. Managing a project this way was a first for me and experimental of the newsroom’s new digital-first approach.
