About this project
I was brought in on this project whose publication was planned to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination in 1968. It was intended to be a walk down the Dallas boulevard bearing his name with residents and business owners acting as prism to reflect the resilience and hopefulness of the neighborhood, despite a lack of resources and attention from the city and other Dallasites.
I conceived of using the doors video footage to welcome readers to the next stop on the interactive's journey. I wanted to humanize a place with these unique and varied neighborhood ambassadors — a pizza place owner, a former district attorney, a homeless man — and make a connection with Dallasites who may have never been to the South Dallas area or were fearful of the area.
