About this project
For more than a year, I worked on the documentary film, The Color of Care. Award-winning director Yance Ford and producer Kate Bolger brought me on in February 2021 to work as a data journalist/researcher. I completed research and data analysis-related queries on COVID-related racial disparities as needed. My data work was used to fact-check and develop the voiceover script, text-on-screen and data graphics. I’m credited on-screen at the end as the film’s data journalist.
The Color of Care was produced in partnership with Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Productions (no, I did not meet Oprah...) and "chronicles how people of color suffer from systemically substandard healthcare in the United States and how COVID-19 exposed the tragic consequences of these inequities."
The documentary premiered on the Smithsonian Channel on May 1, 2022 and was later made available on streaming. (It's currently on Amazon Prime.)
